Sherwoods plant enough trees to offset the carbon emissions generated by a whole year of driving - for every Chevrolet they sell.

Eileen loves her environment-friendly new car!
Motorist Eileen Shepherd doesn’t go on a guilt trip when she’s driving her brand new car.

For Eileen’s purchase of the first ‘carbon neutral’ car in the North East from Chevrolet dealer Sherwoods will result in the planting of several trees over the next year enough to offset any damage her road travelling will have caused to the environment.
Sherwoods Chevrolet has become the first ‘carbon neutral’ dealership in the UK by becoming a Tree Appeal Partner.
Recently retired Mrs Shepherd, in the Haughton area of Darlington, had her heart set on a small, low emissions, economical car to meet her travel requirements including doing voluntary work and transporting friends and elderly family members.
She chose the bronze coloured 1.0l Chevrolet Matiz SX to do the job and as a keen supporter of environmental protection was delighted to learn of the link with Tree Appeal.
She said her new car provided her with a clear conscience, knowing she was contributing to such a worthwhile green initiative. "I love it," she said. "The subject of pollution and the need to protect the planet is in the news much more these days and it does make you think about what you, as an individual, can do to help," she said.
"It’s a massive problem but I like to think that I’m being a responsible driver and doing my small bit to compensate for having a car by making sure extra trees are planted to cancel out its carbon emissions."
Simon MacConachie, Sherwoods’ Chevrolet sales manager added: "As a society, we are becoming more environmentally aware and have to take responsibility for the impact we have on the planet.
"By making the cars we sell carbon neutral, Sherwoods Chevrolet is playing a small but important role in the world’s environmental challenge."
Each Chevrolet, on average, produces carbon emissions that require between three and four trees to offset any damage caused to the environment. The dealership is planting the equivalent number of trees required to make each vehicle it sells carbon neutral for a year. Customers will have the opportunity to continue their commitment by purchasing trees after they have owned the car for 12 months.
The partnership between Tree Appeal and Sherwoods Chevrolet, which is based in Chesnut Street, Darlington, has coincided with the launch of the new 56 registration.
