Official Planting in North Lodge Park.

On Tuesday 1st March 2005, Professor David Bellamy helped to plant some very special trees in North Lodge Park, Darlington. Representatives of the local community and environmental organisations were present at the planting of 10 trees donated by Cummins Engines.

As part of their 40th Anniversary celebrations, Cummins Engines had donated 10 of their TREE APPEAL trees to the park. Each of these trees was dedicated to the family of a Cummins employee and some of their children were there to give a hand. These trees will help to replace some of those that were lost in the recent storms.

The trees in North Lodge Park are in the public eye but the vast majority of TREE APPEAL trees will be in less high-profile surroundings. With the help of our planting partners and their local environmental knowledge, these hundreds of broad-leaved trees will be found homes where they are most needed; supplementing hedgerows, woodlands and nature reserves; alongside our highways, rivers and farmland. By planting trees we are providing woodland habitat for many hundreds of years, passing on to future generations a fascinating and highly valuable ecological heritage.
