Planting at St Clare's Primary School, Teesside

St Clare's Primary School, Teesside was one of the locations visited by the Tree Appeal team as part of Santander's 2009 tree planting activities.

The trees have helped to fill the gap left by their old demolished school, in particular its well-established wildlife garden.

Pauline Bennett, St Clare’s Science and Environmental Co-ordinator, said, “We hope the new trees will encourage new wildlife to inhabit our grounds, which will also support our work in the Ecology and Scientific areas of the school curriculum.”

The children involved in the planting day were made up of the schools very own Eco Council, who braved the inclement weather and delighted in being shown how to correctly plant a tree, with one student declaring “Now I can show my Grandad how to do it!”

In November, Santander planted 1000 broad leaf trees in schools across the UK, helping pupils and students to make the world a greener place.

Staff from local Santander offices were on hand to assist with the planting and, with the help of the team, a wheelchair-bound student was enabled to plant his own tree, describing the event as ‘the best day ever.’
