The fortieth anniversary of Cummins Engines in Darlington was marked with the planting of a very important tree. At the Yarm Road plant, representatives of Cummins, the local community and environmental organisations came together to plant the first of forty special TREE APPEAL trees.

The first forty trees will be planted in selected locations around the Cummins site. All subsequent trees will be donated to Darlington Borough Council to benefit the local community. Also attending the planting was Council Tree Officer, Phil Haynes.

Cummins have a well established track record of environmental awareness. As Mike McCabe says, "We have a strong commitment to the environment and the local community. We felt that TREE APPEAL gave us an opportunity to make a significant contribution locally"

Ten of the trees were donated by Cummins to North Lodge Park, Darlington, to help repair some of the damage done in the recent storms. This became the focus of one of the first Official Plantings of 2005.
